Cr33
Open Cluster in Cassiopeia

About
This Cassiopeia open cluster, about 25′ across, lies toward the eastern edge of the Soul Nebula (IC 1848). Its distance of about 3,590 light-years is much less than the nebula's 7,500 or so, so the two may simply share a line of sight.
Imaging tips
- As a star cluster it suits broadband; the glowing gas of the Soul behind it is a separate target.
- Cr34 lies 10.1′ away, so both clusters fit in the same field.
- At magnitude 5.9 it is bright. One imager framed the Soul and Heart nebulae together with a dual-band filter on a 106 mm f/3.6 for 20 hours 20 minutes.
- Best around October and November; it peaks near 80° altitude from 50°N.
