Sh2-88
HII Region in Vulpecula

About
A star-forming region in Vulpecula, about 6,500 light-years away, made of a large glowing cloud (Sh2-88A) and two small bright knots, B1 and B2. A hot O8 star lights the main cloud. It is nicknamed the Face of God Nebula.
Imaging tips
- At 1620–2690 mm on APS-C (2480–4130 mm full frame) it fills about half of the frame.
- One imager spent 16 hours in total: Hα in 20- and 30-minute subs, plus red, green and blue in 10-minute subs.
- In that image the knots B1 and B2 sit at the lower right of the main cloud, each lit by a star inside the nebula.
- Stars crowd the frame because the field is in a dense stretch of the galaxy's disk.
- Best in July; it peaks near 65° altitude from 50°N.
