H-NGC7510
Open Cluster in Cepheus

About
A compact young open cluster in Cepheus about 6 million years old. Sources give its distance as anywhere from 6,800 to about 10,900 light-years. Around it lies Sh2-157, a nebula glowing red. It is in the Herschel 400.
Imaging tips
- Only about 4′ across, so it is too small to frame: use a long focal length and a fine pixel scale.
- Surface brightness is 19.5 mag/arcsec², fairly bright; one imager made an RGB image from 36 minutes of 2-minute subs.
- Another imager spent 5 h 20 min on it with 2-minute subs, noting poor transparency; that page describes the cluster as embedded in the red emission nebula Sh2-157.
- Best around August and September; from latitudes above 40° it is circumpolar, reaching about 79° at 50°N.
