H-NGC7160
Open Cluster in Cepheus

About
A sparse young open cluster in Cepheus, about 2,570 light-years away and 10 to 19 million years old. It lies inside the Cepheus Bubble, a dusty shell bordered by HII regions such as IC 1396.
Imaging tips
- About 7′ across, so it fills a third to half of the frame at 3460–5770 mm on APS-C.
- At magnitude 6.1 it is bright: one imager used an hour per channel in luminance, red, green and blue (sub length not given).
- Another imager recorded it with three 3-minute exposures on a 530 mm f/3.3 telescope and a DSLR at ISO 1600.
- The cluster has little central concentration; one imager remarks on its range of star colours and brightness.
- Best in August and September; it peaks near 77° from 50°N.
