H-NGC6834
Open Cluster in Cygnus

About
A young open cluster in Cygnus with about 260 members, roughly 65 million years old. Sources give its distance anywhere from 6,700 to 10,850 light-years. Observers nicknamed it the Edge-On Cluster, because a line of bright stars gives it a galaxy-like look.
Imaging tips
- Sources give a diameter of 6–12′, so it is too small to frame: use a long focal length and a fine pixel scale.
- A row of five stars dominates the cluster, with 11th and 12th magnitude stars around it and two star clouds above and below it.
- At 19.9 mag/arcsec² it is bright for its size. Dust dims it by about 2.1 magnitudes.
- It lies about 1° north of Albireo, and is best in July and August; it peaks near 69° altitude from 50°N.
