H-NGC672
Galaxy in Triangulum

About
A barred spiral galaxy in Triangulum, about 23 million light-years away, gas-rich and forming roughly 0.3 solar masses of stars a year. Its irregular neighbour IC 1727 is interacting with it, and a bridge of neutral hydrogen links the two. Both belong to a group that includes NGC 784.
Imaging tips
- Sources give about 6′ × 2′; at 3460–5770 mm on APS-C it spans a third to half of the frame. No full-frame range is listed.
- Faint at 22.8 mag/arcsec², so plan many hours of broadband data; examples range from 60 minutes on film to 29 × 300 s of luminance (2 h 25 min).
- IC 1727 lies nearby. One 1.47° frame on a 1100 mm primary-focus scope also held NGC 684, NGC 670 and IC 1731.
- Best in October and November; it peaks near 67° from 50°N.
