H-NGC3726
Galaxy in Ursa Major

About
A barred spiral galaxy in Ursa Major, with distance estimates between about 45 and 55 million light-years and a diameter near 85,000 light-years. Its bluest star-forming regions lie on an inner ring, and its three arms are thick but somewhat lopsided. It is in the Herschel 400.
Imaging tips
- At 6′ × 4′ it is too small to frame: use a long focal length and a fine pixel scale.
- Faint at 22.5 mag/arcsec², so plan many hours of broadband data.
- One Kitt Peak image of it used luminance plus red, green and blue filters on a 0.4 m telescope and covered a field of 14.4′ × 9.7′.
- Colour data helps here, since the bluest star formation sits on the inner ring.
- Best from February to April; it peaks near 87° from 50°N.
