H-NGC2613
Galaxy in Pyxis

About
A spiral galaxy in Pyxis seen almost edge-on, about 78 million light-years away and some 194,000 light-years across. It hosts an active nucleus buried in gas and dust, and radio data show a tidal-tail-like feature on its southeast side. SN 2023dtc, a Type Ib supernova, appeared in it in March 2023.
Imaging tips
- Too small to frame wide: it needs a long focal length, about 3,460–5,770 mm on APS-C, and a fine pixel scale.
- One imager used six 10-minute exposures, about an hour, through a skyglow filter on a 1,600 mm f/6.3 setup.
- It lies near the Milky Way in the low southern sky, so one imager noted many stars around it.
- At 21.9 mag/arcsec² plan broadband data, and expect it to stay low: it peaks near 17° from 50°N.
