H-NGC1907
Open Cluster in Auriga

About
A small open cluster in Auriga with about 300 stars, roughly 5,200 light-years away and about 500 million years old. One imager thinks it was born elsewhere in the Galaxy and is only drifting past M38. It is in the Herschel 400 list.
Imaging tips
- About 7′ across: 3460–5770 mm on APS-C frames it alone.
- M38 is about 32′ north, so a wider field takes in both. One imager did this with 21 × 5-minute red, 21 green and 22 blue, 5 h 20 min in all, at 1.15″ per pixel.
- That imager was aware of faint nebula near the cluster, yet none appeared in the frame, shot under a bright Moon.
- In wider fields it shares the frame with NGC 1931, IC 417 and the edge of NGC 1893; one 386 mm frame showed all of them.
- Best in November and December, reaching 75° altitude from 50°N.
