H-NGC1027
Open Cluster in Cassiopeia

About
A thin scattering of stars in Cassiopeia, put at 2,500 to 3,000 light-years by different sources, on the Herschel 400 list. Seen near the Heart and Soul nebulae, it sits well in front of both, with no physical tie to either.
Imaging tips
- At 20′ across it fits 1210–2020 mm on APS-C or 1860–3090 mm on full frame.
- The brightest star in the field, SAO 12402 at 7th magnitude, is not a cluster member. Two members at magnitude 9.67 are one orange and one blue.
- One imager's LRGB set from a 14-inch f/10 scope was 4×10 min luminance plus 2×10 min per colour, downsized to 1.5″/pixel.
- Wisps from the outer Heart Nebula show up in the frame. One narrowband Hα, SII and OIII image gathered 13 five-minute frames, about 1 h 5 min.
- Best in October and November; it peaks near 78° altitude from 50°N.
