About
An open cluster in Vela, also catalogued as Markarian 18. SIMBAD lists 235 associated member stars and a size of 5.6′, and Wikipedia's Collinder list gives it as magnitude 7.8.
Imaging tips
- Sizes quoted for it differ; at the 5.6′ SIMBAD gives, it would need a long focal length.
- Star clusters call for broadband imaging.
- Best in January and February, but it never rises from 50°N and peaks near 6° altitude from 35°N, so it needs a southern site.
