Reflection Nebula in Canis Major

About
A reflection nebula in the east of Canis Major, about 4,900 light-years away and a little over 10′ wide from east to west. Also listed as Ced 96 and LBN 1058, it is probably lit by a nearby star of about 7th magnitude.
Imaging tips
- Framing runs 2420–4040 mm on APS-C, or 3710–6190 mm on full frame.
- One imager used a 1600 mm focal length with a light-pollution suppression filter and ten 6-minute exposures, and called the nebula somewhat faint.
- The dark nebula LDN 1660 lies alongside its northern part.
- A reflection nebula, so broadband (LRGB or one-shot colour) is the right choice.
- Best around December and January; it stays below about 16° altitude from 50°N.
