Reflection Nebula in Monoceros

About
The compact top of the Seagull complex, where Monoceros meets Canis Major, about 3,700 light-years away. It glows from HD 53367, a young Be star of about 20 solar masses. It is both emission and reflection nebula, and is also listed as IC 2177.
Imaging tips
- Framing runs 200–340 mm on APS-C; the cluster NGC 2335 lies about 43′ away, so it belongs to a wider field.
- One imager used a 1600 mm focal length with a light-pollution filter and 12 × 6 min exposures.
- Part emission, part reflection: Hα, OIII and SII suit the glowing gas (one imager made an SHO image), while the blue reflection part needs broadband.
- Best around December and January; it stays below about 30° altitude from 50°N.
