vdB15
Reflection Nebula in Camelopardalis

About
A bluish reflection nebula in Camelopardalis wrapped around C Camelopardalis, a star of about 5th magnitude. It is the southern partner of vdB14, and one imager notes that both seem to be parts of a single huge nebulosity. Cam OB1, a region of star formation, surrounds it.
Imaging tips
- Framing runs 810–1350 mm on APS-C. vdB14 lies about 64′ to the north, so including it needs a wider field.
- One imager recorded vdB14 and vdB15 together from a 530 mm focal length on a full-frame DSLR, using a light-pollution suppression filter and four 4-minute exposures.
- Another imager gathered 19 hours over five nights, split between RGB and Hα. For the nebula itself, broadband is the choice.
- In an emphasised stretch the two clouds seem to connect, so deep data rewards a frame that holds both.
- Best in October and November; it peaks near 81° from 50°N.
