B7
Dark Nebula in Taurus

About
The seventh entry in Barnard's list of dark nebulae, in Taurus about 400 light-years away and listed at roughly 60′ across. NASA's image places a bluish, dusty reflection nebula beside it, in a region where dark clouds may later form stars.
Imaging tips
- Dark nebulae suit broadband imaging. A nearly 1° field shows B7 beside the reflection nebula, with the young star RY Tauri nearby.
- One imager used a 200 mm lens and 85 two-minute frames (2 h 50 min), and caught B10, B18, B19, B22, B23 and many other Barnards in the same frame.
- Another imager framed B7 together with the Pleiades: an 85 mm lens, 66 two-minute frames, and a light-pollution clip-in filter.
- Best in November and December; it climbs high, peaking near 69° from 50°N.
