B63
Dark Nebula in Ophiuchus

About
A small dark nebula in Ophiuchus, listed by Barnard in his catalogue of 1927. It lies close to B62 in the same part of the sky.
Imaging tips
- About 6′ × 4′, so it is too small to frame: a long focal length and a fine pixel scale are needed.
- As a dark nebula it calls for broadband imaging, not narrowband.
- One imager shot it with a 16-inch f/3.75 astrograph from Namibia: 4 × 400 s each in L, R, G and B, 1 h 46 min in all.
- The 1.98° field at 3.945″ per pixel also took in B62, about 27.4′ away.
- Peaks near 18° altitude from 50°N, so it stays low; May and June are the best months.
