B36
Dark Nebula in Orion

About
A dark nebula in Orion that belongs to the Lambda Orionis Ring, an HII region ionised by the star Lambda Orionis. It measures about 10×7′ on the sky.
Imaging tips
- At 2420–4040 mm on APS-C (3710–6190 mm full frame) the 10×7′ cloud takes a third to half of the frame; plan a fine pixel scale.
- A dark nebula, so use broadband; it shows as dust blocking the stars behind it.
- The B35 cloud lies in the same ring, so a wider field can bring both together.
- Best in December; it peaks near 47° altitude from 50°N.
