B19
Dark Nebula in Taurus

About
A large, faint patch of dust in Taurus, listed by E. E. Barnard in 1927 and described in his catalogue as "large, indefinite". It belongs to the Taurus dark-cloud complex, a nearby star-forming region about 450 light-years away.
Imaging tips
- Catalogue sizes for B19 vary between sources, so frame generously: 400–670 mm on APS-C is the range where a 60′ patch fills a third to half of the frame; a wider lens shows the dust in context.
- A dark nebula shows only against a rich star field, so image it in broadband rather than narrowband.
- Sits well in the evening sky from November to December.
