Dark Nebula in Scutum

About
A small dark nebula in Scutum, listed as LDN 509 with opacity class 6. It shares that Lynds entry with B117.
Imaging tips
- Dark nebulae call for broadband imaging, since the cloud is recorded as a gap in the star field.
- Only about 5 × 4′, so it is too small to frame: use a long focal length and a fine pixel scale.
- Best around June and July; it peaks near 33° altitude from 50°N.
- One imager photographed this cloud with a 12-inch f/8 Meade LX600 and a DSLR, using a focal reducer at prime focus, and presented it in black and white.
