B107
Dark Nebula in Scutum

About
A dark nebula in Scutum, north of the open cluster M11, that Lynds numbered LDN 530 with opacity class 6. It shares that Lynds entry with B106 and B110, which lie close by; B110 is estimated at about 1,300 light-years.
Imaging tips
- Dark nebulae call for broadband imaging, since the cloud is recorded as a gap in the star field.
- Neighbouring B110 is a much larger cloud, and one imager framed for B107 and cut off much of B110, so look at the whole field before shooting.
- A framing range of 3030–5050 mm on APS-C suits its size.
- One imager lost most of a second colour session to clouds.
- Best around June and July; it peaks near 35° altitude from 50°N.
