Dark Nebula in Perseus

About
A dark nebula in Perseus about 800 light-years away, listed at roughly 70′ across. It lies within the Perseus molecular cloud, a nearby site where stars of low and intermediate mass are forming; IC 348 and NGC 1333 share that cloud.
Imaging tips
- Dark nebulae suit broadband imaging. One 9.7-hour image used a 180 mm lens on a 6.39° × 4.26° field, covering the cloud with NGC 1333 right of centre.
- The faintest dust in that wide field shows because it reflects Milky Way starlight; the data were taken under sky-quality readings of 20.81 and 21.81.
- Another imager used 134 three-minute frames, 6 h 42 min over three nights, at about 385 mm and noted poor transparency during the session.
- Best in November; it climbs high, peaking near 71° from 50°N.
