Arp293
Galaxy in Draco

About
In Draco, about 252 million light-years away, NGC 6286 and its neighbour NGC 6285 interact and show tidal distortion. Arp placed it among "Galaxies with the appearance of wind effects". NGC 6286 looks like an edge-on spiral, and one imager noted a faint tongue-like extension toward the south-east.
Imaging tips
- Too small to frame at about 3×2′: it needs a long focal length and a fine pixel scale.
- Faint for its size at 23.1 mag/arcsec², so plan many hours of broadband data.
- One imager stacked ten 6-minute exposures at a focal length of 1600 mm through a light-pollution suppression filter.
- Best in May and June; it climbs to about 81° from 50°N.
