Arp274
Galaxy in Virgo

About
The NGC 5679 group in Virgo holds three galaxies, about 400 million light-years away and strung across roughly 200,000 light-years. Arp listed it among "Galaxies with connected arms". Hubble shows all three forming stars rapidly, yet the middle one lies roughly 65 million light-years farther back and is probably not part of the interaction.
Imaging tips
- Too small to frame at about 3×2′: it needs a long focal length and a fine pixel scale.
- Faint for its size at 23.1 mag/arcsec², so plan many hours of broadband data.
- Best around April and May; it reaches only about 45° altitude from 50°N.
