Arp273 — Rose Galaxies
Galaxy in Andromeda

About
Two galaxies in Andromeda, about 300 million light-years away, are interacting. Tidal pull from the companion UGC 1813 has bent the disc of the larger UGC 1810 into a rose-like outline. Arp placed it among "Galaxies with connected arms", and the smaller galaxy may have plunged right through its bigger neighbour.
Imaging tips
- Too small to frame at about 3×2′: it needs a long focal length and a fine pixel scale.
- Faint for its size at 23.6 mag/arcsec², so plan many hours of broadband data.
- One imager gathered 3.5 hours in total: eight 15-minute luminance frames plus two 15-minute frames each in red, green and blue.
- Best around October and November; it climbs to about 79° from 50°N.
