Arp212
Galaxy in Pegasus

About
NGC 7625, a peculiar spiral in Pegasus about 78 million light-years away. Arp listed it among galaxies with irregularities, absorption and resolution. Its standout feature is a dust-lane ring, open on one side, about 15–20″ in radius, and its inner and outer parts appear to rotate in different planes. Sources give a size of about 1.6 × 1.4′.
Imaging tips
- Well under 2′ across, so it is too small to frame: use a long focal length and a fine pixel scale.
- Moderately faint for its size at 22.0 mag/arcsec², so plan many hours of broadband data.
- The dust ring is only about 15–20″ in radius, so it is a detail for fine sampling.
- Best around August and September; it climbs to about 57° from 50°N.
